Communications Internship

The Communications Intern for Minaret Foundation will provide media and messaging support for our organization’s advocacy, monitoring, and public relations efforts.

Our goal is to prepare and help place interns for a second internship or a part-time position within media organizations, government, or wider community organizations after the conclusion of our internship.

Relevant experience is not required.

We’ll prepare interns through hands-on involvement in relevant projects, one-on-one sessions with experts, and strong experiential learning.

Relevant majors: Communications, Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, Journalism, Social Work, English Literature, and Digital Communication.

While the hours are flexible and the position is remote, our work is incredibly important and will serve as the building blocks for strategic community and organizational partnerships for years to come. There will be times where your attendance at an event or meeting is needed.

You will be provided training with other interns to help you transition into this role.

A stipend is provided at the completion of the program, all expenses incurred will be paid, and if available, we will work with your educational institution to provide credit towards your degree plan.

General Responsibilities:

  • Identify one passion or organizational project, and drive it to completion before the end of the program.
  • Solicit updates from other departments and develop content as needed.
  • Assist in creating content for weekly emails, monthly stakeholder emails, and donor newsletters.
  • Provide interview assistance to staff for stakeholders and influencers.
  • Attend meetings with journalists, public relations specialists, and other communication leaders and provide auxiliary support as needed.
  • Maintain a database of journalists and monitor media outlets for relevant opportunities.
  • Continuously prune and develop the Muslim expert database for journalists.
  • Provide communications support for related domestic and international projects.
  • Help coordinate research and messaging with domestic and international entities, community organizations, and Muslim leadership.

Required Qualifications:

  • Respect, appreciation, and/or curiosity for ALL faith traditions, ideologies, and political leanings.
  • Exceptional research skills with demonstrated understanding of data and digital platforms.
  • Well versed in Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and other social channels.
  • Exceptional research skills with demonstrated understanding of data and digital platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with clear experience in writing engaging content.
  • Ability to manage time with great efficiency, and can operate with little oversight and minimal direction.
  • Ability to provide the answer to two plus three in the first communication with our organization.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new technology and programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint or Keynote.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Candidates should be working toward a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.


This position is part-time at 15 hours a week and a stipend is provided at program completion. All organizational expenses will be paid by Minaret Foundation.
